BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – On Friday, a Brightline train collided with a front-end loader, sending the operator to the hospital on a trauma alert.

According to Melbourne Police, the department was contacted at 3:36 p.m. about a Brightline train hitting a construction truck with a front-end loader at an intersection near East NASA Boulevard and Hickory Street.

“The Brightline train was traveling northbound and struck a front loader traveling on the gravel area between the two railway tracks,” a Melbourne police spokesperson said.

“The front-end loader operator suffered injuries and was transported to a local hospital. At the time of this reporting, the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.”

This case is an active investigation.
