Etowah County woman accused of stealing while working as a caregiver

ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – The The Etowah County Sheriff is calling this a case of breach of trust. A woman, who is a caregiver, is accused of stealing a family’s credit card information to buy things online.

Etowah County Sheriff Jonathon Horton says the abuse of trust in this case is concerning and heartbreaking. Brittani Autwell, 27, of Attalla, was charged with fraudulent use of credit cards, identity theft and theft of property.

Sheriff Horton says Autwell was hired by the victims to care for their grandson, who has autism. Horton says the victims noticed and reported irregularities in their financial statements.

Investigators used digital evidence and financial data to make the arrest. Autwell is currently released on a $9,000 property bond.
