Silent Hill 2 players remain disturbed by mysterious room in the remake

Silent Hill 2 players have been disturbed by a mysterious room in the new remake of the game. Like the 2001 PS2 original, the Silent Hill 2 Remake masters the sense of atmosphere. And one of the ways it does this is by combining attention to detail and mystery, the latter of which is achieved through little environmental breadcrumbs that leave players curious and on the edge of their seats.

For example, in room 210 at the Woodside Apartments, one of the walls has a human silhouette. And we don’t know why. It’s never explained in the game. As a result, it not only adds to the creepy and disturbing atmosphere of the game, but also builds out the world, but it leaves fans wondering if there is something more to it. In other words, it leaves players wondering if there’s a mystery to solve, because it’s certainly not a random human silhouette, but it appears to be just that.

That’s why one of the top posts on the Silent Hill 2 Reddit page this week is a post wondering about this human silhouette in room 210 at the Woodside Apartments.

As the comments indicate, this is most likely nothing more than scaring players and, again, creating an atmosphere, something the game does better than almost any other horror game before it.

However, there are other explanations for this mysterious room. Some think it’s a nod to the Japanese horror film Pulse, which is possible, especially considering the Japanese roots of the Silent Hill series.

And then there are other theories that suggest that there is a much deeper meaning not only in this silhouette, but in the others as well.

“The silhouettes symbolize James’ inability to move past his trauma as his inner self is bound by the strict confines of his mind,” reads one comment. “He wants to reach out and scream, but the walls of his mind keep suppressing his thoughts, so the silhouettes are his subconscious appearing to warn him and tell him to wake up.”

Of course, all we have now is speculation. The reality is that there’s probably nothing more to it than simply eco-friendly decor and storytelling. Be that as it may, it is very effective. So effective players assume there is more to the silhouettes, and maybe there is, but this is just speculation for now.
