Port St. Lucie man accused of killing parents in 2011 gives first interview

Tyler Hadley, the Port St. Lucie teen who killed his parents with a hammer in 2011, talks to Court TV in his first interview that aired Sunday night.

The case gained national attention after he murdered his parents and then hosted a party, where friends said they found his parents’ bodies. Hadley provides new details, including why he killed his parents.

“I felt my face contort so much with maniacal rage,” Hadley told Court TV. ‘I can’t even contract my muscles like that. I can’t even try. I can’t even sit here and try to do that. But I felt my mouth moving that way.”

Judge upholds two life sentences for Tyler Hadley

He said he thinks he killed his parents to stop all his pain, but he didn’t know exactly what the reason was 13 years after the crime. He also said he remembered his mother asking “why” when he hit her more than 30 times with a hammer and then confronted his father, but he has not had any violent tendencies since the crime.

“It was just that one that thought, man, just kept going,” Hadley said. “If I didn’t have that thought, I wouldn’t be sitting here talking to you.”

He said he hated himself for killing his parents, and said it is “difficult” to live with the consequences of his past actions.

The full interview will air on Court TV on Sunday at 8 p.m.
