Cold weekend mornings; The rain returns next week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – THE NEXT 24 HOURS: We may see some patchy frost overnight in a few remote and low-lying areas in the north and east. Minimum temperatures range from 36º to almost 43º. Skies will remain clear, with calmer conditions. Some fog may also develop around local waterways Saturday morning. Also look to the sky tonight for the last supermoon of the year. November’s full moon shines brightly tonight. The rest of our weekend will be characterized by lots of sun and very pleasant afternoons. Expect highs in the 60s, with starting temperatures in the 60s for the College Games. We’ll have another cold start in the 40s on Sunday, with highs closer to 70ºF.

THE NEXT BIG THING There will be another cold front midway through next week. This front offers a chance of rain and possibly a storm on Tuesday. This wet weather could reach West Alabama early Tuesday and impact areas further east Tuesday evening. There may be some lingering showers and low clouds on Wednesday, with highs in the 60s. I still think we could see some lows in the mid to upper 30s late next week; However, I don’t necessarily see a pole drop. Furthermore, the data today is trending towards a lower risk of frostbite. That said, clouds will be a big factor in how cold it feels during the day. If low clouds linger through Thursday, there may be some areas that will struggle to get out of the 40s during the day. The weekend of the 23rd looks dry and the long range guidance now points to another cold front/rainmaker around the November 26/27 time frame. This system may have some consequences for holiday travel.

Tropical Storm Sara formed over the Caribbean yesterday and will impact the Yucatan on Monday. The system should weaken as it crosses the Yucatán. As the next cold front and associated upper level hit our region next week, there is a chance that some of the tropical energy will be drawn northeastward toward Florida’s Gulf Coast.
