JOHANNESBURG – The Pretoria Magistrates Court has sentenced a man to three life sentences for continuously raping his stepdaughter.

On Thursday the 50-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect his daughter’s identity, appeared in court to be sentenced on three charges of rape.

According to the prosecutor, the victim’s mother went into labor in October 2018, leaving her 11-year-old child alone with the perpetrator in their home in Olievenhoutbosch.

The man proceeded to undress the minor, prevented her from screaming and sexually assaulted her. The cycle continued until 2020.

Magistrate Fikiswa Ntlati said in sentencing that the man showed no remorse for his actions and continues to deny the offenses despite the overwhelming amount of evidence against him.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomed the verdict.

“After the child reported the matter to the police and the man was arrested, he pleaded not guilty to the charges and denied raping the child. However, the State was able to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt. The NPA welcomes this conviction and reaffirms its commitment to combating gender-based violence,” said NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana.
