On Friday evening, a Southwest Airlines plane was struck by a bullet at Dallas Love Field Airport in Texas, as confirmed by airline officials.
The plane, bound for Indianapolis, returned to the terminal after the incident and all passengers were safely evacuated, representatives from both Southwest and the airport said.
No one was injured in the incident and the aircraft was withdrawn from operational service. “Southwest Airlines Flight 2494 was scheduled to depart for Indianapolis when a bullet apparently struck the right side of the aircraft, just below the cockpit, as the crew prepared for takeoff,” the Southwest spokesperson said.
Dallas police officers arrived at the airport around 9:50 p.m. to investigate the shooting.
This incident follows recent events in Haiti, where gangs shot at three planes at or near Port-au-Prince airport, leading the Federal Aviation Administration to implement a 30-day restriction on U.S. airlines operating in the troubled Caribbean country.
On Monday, several bullets hit a Spirit Airlines plane as it landed at Toussaint Louverture International Airport.
In that incident, a flight attendant suffered a graze wound from gunfire, forcing the plane to be diverted to an airport in the Dominican Republic.
