Tragedy involving prominent Nigerian politician shot dead in Abeokuta, details emerge

  • Armed men, believed to be cult members, attacked Hon. Mutiu Akinbami, popularly called Igor, after an early grave
  • Reports making the rounds on Saturday indicated that the attacker followed the politician from his home before they shot and killed him in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
  • As at the time of compiling this report, the Ogun State Police Command has not yet released any official statement on the unfortunate development

How Ogun ex-councillor Akinbami was killed

The victim, who was said to be a disabled man, was killed while riding a motorcycle in Abeokuta on Friday evening, November 15. Ogun State.

Akinbami, who had lost his left leg years ago and used an iron bar for mobility, was attacked near the Brewery Bus Stop and Olomoor Junction at around 6.13pm. He was accompanied by his daughter at the time of the attack.

His attackers, probably sect members, are said to have driven a tinted vehicle Toyota Hilux with unknown license plate.

Eyewitnesses, including members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) who were at the scene, revealed that the attackers had tracked Akinbami from his residence in the Olomoore Federal Housing Estate before carrying out the attack. They fled after the attack.

At the time this report was completed, the Ogun stands Police Commando has not released an official statement on the killing.
