Four Mpumalanga police officers taken into custody after theft – SABC News

The four police officers arrested for theft and perverting the course of justice have been remanded in custody at the Barberton Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga. Sergeant Danisile Mahlangu, Sergeant Mandla Ndlovu, Sergeant Bongani Dlamini and Sergeant Doctor Zulu reportedly searched a house of an alleged paymaster of illegal miners in Barberton, and seized R1 800,000.

According to the Hawks, the money was not recorded as evidence. Instead, they arrested the alleged paymaster’s son and held him in police custody without opening a case.

Hawks spokesperson in Mpumalanga Dineo Sekgotodi says the four later surrendered only R200,000 of the money seized from the house.

They are expected back in court on Tuesday.
