The Jersey Gallery showcases dementia-inspired art

An art gallery has become home to a pop-up exhibition of art inspired by dementia.

Artist Connor Daly has created a series of still life photographs for ArtHouse Jersey that he says are a “statement about Alzheimer’s disease.”

“It is based on a variety of personal experiences with the disease, as well as different cultural references,” he said.

Located in the Greve de Lecq Barracks, the exhibition’s theme gives local artists a space to showcase their work and connect with the community.

Mr Daly’s photography includes ‘memory objects’ that are common in the care of people with dementia.

“People who have dementia and are cared for in care homes will have a memory box containing various items,” he said.

“I think it should help cognitive functions. So the series itself is a personal statement, but it is based on the 20,000 words I have read about dementia.”

Prints of Mr Daly’s photography will be available for purchase at the exhibition, with all proceeds going to Dementia Jersey.

He added: “I’ve always said that if I can do anything with photography, I would always try to give something back to causes I believe in.

“I’ve always strived for that, so if I ever sell anything, I always try to give a percentage back to charity.”

Another local artist featured is Max Corbett, who specializes in oil paintings.

He said his work “captures the energy of city life.”

Speaking about the exhibition, Mr Corbett said: “It’s always exciting to show them and get new people to interact with the work.”

The artwork can be experienced on Saturdays and Sundays between 10am and 5pm GMT.
