All-time low: Nayanthara slams Dhanush for Rs 10 crore lawsuit

South cinema star Nayanthara on Saturday criticized actor Dhanush, who produced her 2015 Tamil film ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’, for refusing to give permission to use footage from the film in her upcoming Netflix documentary.

In a three-page open letter on her Instagram page, the ‘Jawan’ actress slammed Dhanush for sending a legal notice demanding Rs 10 crore in damages after the trailer of the documentary, titled ‘Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairy Tale ‘, had been released. online.

“After fighting with you for two long years for a NOC (No Objection Certificate) and waiting for your approval for the release of our Netflix documentary, we finally decided to give up, re-edit and to settle for the current version as you refused to allow the use of ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ songs or visual clips – even the photos, to say the least – despite multiple requests.

“The songs from ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ are appreciated even today because the lyrics came from real emotions. Knowing that there is no better music we could use in our documentary, your refusal to give us the opportunity to use it, or even the lyrics of the songs, broke my heart,” the letter said.

Released in 2015, “Naanum Rowdy Dhaan” was a romantic comedy written and directed by Nayanthara’s husband, Vignesh Shivan. The actor starred opposite Vijay Sethupathi in the film, which was produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films.

“The revenge you have harbored against the film, my partner and me, affects not only us, but also the people who contributed their time and effort to this project.

“This Netflix documentary about me, my life, my love and marriage contains clips of many of my industry well-wishers who graciously contributed and memories of several films, but unfortunately does not include the most special and important film, ‘Naanum Rowdy’ . Dhaan’,” said Nayanthara.

Dhanush has not yet responded to her letter.

The 39-year-old actress said she was shocked after receiving a legal notice for the use of a three-second behind-the-scenes clip in the documentary.

“We were shocked to read those lines where you questioned the use of some videos (only three seconds) recorded on our personal devices, as well as BTS images that are already very publicly present on social media, and a claimed amount of Rs 10 crore as damages for just three seconds.

“This is an absolute low point for you and speaks volumes about your character. I wish you were half the person you portray on stage during audio launches for your innocent fans, but it’s clear you don’t practice what you preach, at least not with me and my partner,” she said.

Nayanthara said she would give a “befitting” response to Dhanush’s notice through lawful means.

“Does a producer become an emperor who controls the lives, liberty and freedom of all persons on set? Any deviation from the emperor’s ruling has legal consequences?

“Your refusal to give an NOC for using elements of ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ for our Netflix documentary may be justified by you before the court from a copyright point of view, but I would like to remind you that there is a moral side to it sit. which must be defended before the court of God,” she added.

Nayanthara noted that the film was released almost a decade ago, but Dhanush continues to “behave despicably while wearing a mask in front of the world”.

The actor added that she has not forgotten “all the terrible things” Dhanush said about the film, which became one of his biggest hits as a producer.

“The words you said before the release have already left us with some incurable scars. I learned through film circles that your ego was hurt immensely after the movie became a blockbuster. Your displeasure over its success was felt even by the common man through the award ceremonies associated with this film (Filmfare 2016),” she said.

‘Courtesy and decency require generous behavior in such matters. I believe that the people of Tamil Nadu, or anyone in good conscience, would not appreciate such tyranny even if it comes from an established personality like you,” she added.

Nayanthara concluded the letter by saying that in a world where it is easy to look down on others, “there is also joy in the joy of others, there is happiness in seeing the happiness of other people, and hope that comes from the stories of others”.

“That’s the reason behind our Netflix documentary. I suggest you watch it too, maybe it will change your mind. It’s important to #SpreadLove, and I hope and pray that one day you’ll be fully able to do it too and not just say it,” she said.
