Apple’s AirPods Pro 2 makes hearing tests as easy as a few taps

A convenient and accurate hearing test

It’s pretty slick how it works. The AirPods Pro 2 use their Pro-level active noise cancellation and in-ear sealing to create a controlled environment, a kind of mini sound booth in your ears.

Using pure tone audiometry, based on advanced acoustic science, the test plays a series of tones to which you respond by tapping the screen. Helpful animations, tap-back effects, and progress indicators guide you through the experience, which lasts about five minutes. More than 150,000 real-world audiograms and millions of simulations contributed to its development hearing test that’s accurate, fast and easy. You will receive a personal report on your hearing within about five minutes.

Steps to complete your hearing test with AirPods Pro 2

Find a quiet place and follow these steps to take your hearing test. Please note: this hearing test is intended for people aged 18 and over.

  • Make sure your iPhone has the latest software. Go to Institutions > General > Software updateand then tap “Download and Install” if necessary.
  • Then make sure you wear your AirPods Pro 2.
  • On your iPhone, tap Institutions.
  • Then click on your AirPods Pro 2.
  • Then select the Hearing test option.
  • Now tap Get started and follow the directions, which includes answering a few questions, confirming you’re in a quiet location, and checking the fit of your AirPods Pro 2.
  • Follow the rest directions and tap Start test. It takes about 5 minutes and you can cancel it at any time.
  • The test is played unique tones at different volumes and frequencies, which you may sometimes not hear. Every note pulsates three times.
  • Crane the screen when you hear a tone and wait until you hear another. The test starts with your left ear and then continues to the right.
  • After the hearing test is completed, you will be given a check mark and a message that your results have been saved.
  • Crane View resultsand you can tap Show details to view your results and any recommendations for hearing assistance.
  • Crane finished when you’re done.

Instant insight into your hearing health

Once you have completed your hearing test, you will receive immediate insight into your hearing test hearing health. To access your hearing data, which is stored in the Health app:

  • In the health app, tap Browse in the bottom right corner.
  • Crane hearingand your most recent health outcomes will appear at the top.
  • Crane Hearing test results to view your hearing aid recommendations and all your results, including a graph showing decibel loss for each ear, as well as averages if you’ve done multiple tests.
  • You can tap Show more details for additional information.
  • You can also tap Add test in the top right corner of your screen if you want to upload data from another hearing test or audiogram, such as one administered by a doctor.
  • If you want print or save resultsscroll down, tap All hearing test resultsand then tap Export PDF.

If the test indicates mild to moderate hearing loss, you will be prompted to enable the new hearing aid feature. This hearing aid mode is quite groundbreaking. It essentially changes you AirPods Pro 2 to a clinical quality hearing aid. Using Apple’s H2 chip and advanced computational audio technology, the sound becomes clearer in real time. Let’s learn how to set up hearing assistance and enable the hearing aid function.

  • While wearing your AirPods Pro 2, tap Hearing aid in your AirPods settings on your iPhone.
  • You can start or select a new hearing test from here results of a test you have already taken.
  • We will tap Use a previous test result.
  • Answer the to ask on the screen Provide some details.
  • Scroll down and tap Next.
  • Now select one compatible hearing test result.
  • Then tap Nextand the results and recommendations of your selected test will appear.
  • If your test shows mild to moderate hearing loss, tap Adjust hearing aid and follow the directions.
  • When the hearing aid is ready, tap Turn on hearing aid And tap Done.

Once the Hearing Aid feature is enabled, it will be saved to your AirPods Pro 2, so make sure you don’t share your AirPods with anyone. Also keep in mind that it may take some time to get used to the adjustments based on your personal listening profile. You can make additional changes in Control Center at any time. Here’s how:

  • Crane Hearing aid in your AirPods settings again and Adjust your hearing aid settings.
  • When you tap Adjustments, You will find options and sliders that allow you to further customize the hearing aid function.
  • Plus, Media assistance is enabled by default, which automatically improves the clarity of music, phone calls, and FaceTime calls.

Advanced hearing protection

The new hearing protection function is designed to protect your ears from loud noises in everyday life. It actively adapts to sudden loud noises and protects your hearing in noisy environments such as concerts or even during your daily commute.
