One seriously injured in a crash Friday morning on the US-24 freeway west of Wamego

ST. GEORGE, Kan. (WIBW) – One person was seriously injured early Friday in a crash on US-24 highway west of Wamego in Pottawatomie County, authorities said.

The crash was reported around 7:31 a.m. Friday near the intersection of US-24 freeway and Blackjack Road. The site was just north of St. George and about 5 miles west of Wamego.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2024 Kia ​​Telluride was stopped facing north at the stop sign on Blackjack Road as it attempted to cross the eastbound lanes of US-24 to travel onto westbound US-24.

The driver of the Kia did not see a 2016 Nissan Versa traveling in the left eastbound lane of US-24, the patrol said.

The vehicles then collided in the eastbound lanes of US-24, the patrol said.

The driver of the Nissan, Awa Fanny Massounga Bora, 37, of Manhattan, was transported to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas, with serious injuries. The patrol said Bora was wearing her seat belt.

The driver of the Kia, Michael David Pilat, 57, of St. George, was uninjured. The patrol said Pilat was wearing his seat belt.

According to the patrol, both drivers were alone in their vehicles.

It was reported that traffic in the area was delayed following the accident.

However, officials said there were no immediate reports of lane blocking.
