“He remained present at the town hall as vice chairman as usual till Thursday,” Malay Ghosh, chairman of the Trinamool-led North Barrackpore Municipality, told TOI. “We held a CIC meeting on Thursday afternoon in which Banerjee actively participated for over two hours. He seemed completely normal and there were no signs of unusual behaviour,” Ghosh said while speaking to TOI.

According to family sources, Banerjee left the house early on Friday morning. “However, he could not be located all day. Despite several attempts by the family to contact him, they were unable to do so. His cell phone appeared to be turned off. Even after asking acquaintances, there was no trace of him after a missing complaint was lodged at Barrackpore PS,” said a relative of Banerjee.
