Woman found shot to death in Austin apartment, police say

A woman was shot and killed at an apartment complex on Rutland Drive early Saturday morning, according to Austin police.

Around 4:08 a.m. Saturday, the 911 dispatch center received calls of shots fired at the Espero Rutland apartment complex at 1934 Rutland Drive, Corporal Matthew Nonweiler said. Officers arrived to the complex about five minutes after the call and found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds in one of the apartments. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of first responders, Nonweiler said.

Austin police say this is an isolated incident and there is currently no threat to the community. Police also said homicide detectives have not identified a suspect at this time.

The Espero Rutland is one subsidized apartment complex for people who have become homeless.
