Four assailants carried by bicycles fire 16 bullets at the fuel pump

In a shocking incident late on Friday evening, four assailants on bikes fired around 16 bullets at a fuel pump office in Gokulpuri area on Wazirabad Road in Northeast Delhi, injuring one person. The police suspect that the incident involves old village-level rivalry between the owner of the fuel pump. The pump supervisor, Ansul Rathi, suffered minor injuries due to breaking a window in the incident, a police official said. The incident has raised concerns over law and order in the national capital. The gunman was also caught by the CCTV camera installed at the petrol pump.

According to Delhi Police, the firing took place at Mukul Diesel petrol pump in Gokulpuri area around 10.38 pm. The injured, identified as supervisor Anshul Rathi, sustained minor injuries from glass shards and were rushed to GTB Hospital. Doctors confirmed his injuries were not life-threatening. Rathi has been working at the petrol pump for six years and reportedly has no enmity with anyone.

Eyewitnesses and police sources revealed that four attackers arrived on two motorcycles. A pillion rider on one of the bikes opened fire at the office booth from outside before the two bikes sped off in different directions – one towards Gokulpuri and the other towards Loni Roundabout.

The owner of the petrol pump, Harish Chaudhary, informed police that the attack could be the result of an old rivalry in his village. Chaudhary, who is known as a “bad character” of Gokulpuri police station, has several pending cases against him. The Delhi Police has started an investigation and is examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the perpetrators.

“We take this matter very seriously. The involvement of multiple rounds of fire indicates a premeditated attack. Investigations are on to establish the motive and identify the attackers,” a senior police official said.

Security around the petrol pump has been tightened and additional police personnel have been deployed to ensure public safety.
