As he approached his birdie opportunity on the par-three, Hatton’s attempt went just wide of the hole.

If he had sunk it, he would have become next co-leader of the tournament Rory McIlroy and Rasmus Hojgaard.

Just a foot away from the hole, everyone watching thought it was a simple putt for par.

Ryder cup hero Hatton, who is known for his temper on the course, casually approached his ball and floated over the hole with the intention of tapping it home quickly.

But shockingly, the LIV Golf The star missed from one foot and watched in horror as his putt hit the right edge and lipped out.

Viewers at home didn’t even manage to see his reaction as Sky Sports cameras had already switched to see Hojgaard’s second shot on the par-four fifth hole, assuming Hatton’s putt was a foregone conclusion.

Those watching on television heard a shocked commentator exclaim loudly, “Ohhh.”

While another simply said: “Oh my god.”

One commenter then said: “Please, maybe, just maybe, that will be the difference on Sunday night.”

Fans were quick to comment on the miss, as one fan wrote on X: “The producer didn’t understand the assignment.

“If this happens to Hatton, NEVER take the camera away from him.”

Another fan referenced his allegiance to LIV Golf, joking: “Live it, I mean love it.”

A third added: “I wouldn’t want to be within 2 meters of him.”

This user then posted: “Camera was quickly changed to avoid explicit images.”

It was an eventful day for Hatton, who left veteran Sky Sports commentator Ewan Murray fuming by snapping a club in half at the par-5 14th.

“Oh no, no. It’s time for a change, I’m afraid,” said the Scot.

“What a terrible influence on the next generation. I’m sorry to say it, I’m his biggest supporter as a golfer. But look at this. Why? Why would you do that? We’ve all had our problems.” moments, but he has too many.”

Hatton’s spirits were also called into question on Friday when he blew up the tournament’s 18th hole – designed by his own LIV Golf CEO and two-time major winner Greg Norman.

Considered one of the easier holes to make par, the 611-yard par-five hole came under intense scrutiny from Hatton towards the end of the second round on Friday.

After choosing to play it and lay down his second shot rather than go for the green, he was heard saying, “I despise everything about this hole. A truly terrible golf hole.”

Heading into the final round on Sunday, Hatton is in fourth place after his third round at even par, leaving him eight under par.

Hojgaard leads the way at 12 under, followed by McIlroy (11 under) and Antoine Rozner (ten under).
