The body of a woman was discovered in a car boot in east London, sparking a murder investigation by police, British media reported on Saturday (Nov 16). The woman, 24 years old, has not yet been identified.

According to a report from The Guardian, Chief Inspector Steve Freeman of Northamptonshire Police said police were called on Wednesday by a member of the public concerned about the woman’s welfare.

“A quick investigation was carried out which unfortunately led to the discovery of a woman’s body in the boot of a car in the Ilford area of ​​London,” Chief Inspector Freeman added.

Woman possibly victim of ‘targeted incident’

Police said the 24-year-old woman, a resident of Corby, could have been the victim of a ‘targeted incident’. A murder investigation was launched.

“While we believe this was a targeted incident and there is no greater risk to the public, additional patrols will be taking place in Corby over the coming days for reassurance,” Freeman said.

“The investigation is ongoing and there will be police activity this weekend in several locations including Corby and Ilford,” the police official added.

A report from Sky News, meanwhile, said a post-mortem (on the victim) carried out on Friday showed she had been murdered.
