Storm Man-yi: Hong Kong Observatory is considering issuing a T1 signal as early as Monday

The Hong Kong Observatory has said it will consider issuing a No. 1 warning as early as Monday as Super Typhoon Man-yi approaches, while warning that the weather is expected to remain windy and temperatures will drop to 18 degrees Celsius (64.4 Fahrenheit) or lower. later this week.

The forecaster’s storm tracker showed Man-yi likely to travel at about 120 km/h (74 mph), weakening as the center moved within 800 km (497 miles) of the city Monday morning.

The storm was also expected to transition from a typhoon to a severe tropical storm and move at 90 km/h on Tuesday while it was 400 km from the city, the Observatory said.

“We expect Man-yi to fly 800 km within Hong Kong towards the southern Chinese coast this evening or early tomorrow,” Lam Ka-fai, a scientific officer at the Observatory, said on Sunday.

“Due to the combined effects of the northeast monsoon and Man-yi, winds will become stronger from Monday to Tuesday. The Observatory will then issue a tropical cyclone warning signal.”

The warning, also known as Signal No. 1, is issued when a tropical cyclone is 800 km away from Hong Kong and is likely to hit the city.

The forecaster also said Man-yi would become a tropical depression on Wednesday if it moves away from Hong Kong.
