Slough: Teens offered free help to quit vaping

A council spokesperson said: “While vapes may seem like a safer alternative to smoking, they are not harmless – especially if you have never smoked before.

“No matter why you started vaping, whether it was because of peer pressure, curiosity or because you just thought it was ‘no big deal’, this is your chance to quit – and we’re here to support you every step of the way.”

Although vaping is not considered as harmful as smoking cigarettes, some health experts have warned non-smokers against taking up vaping, fearing it could cause long-term damage to their lungs, heart and brain.

The council said it was working with local colleges and schools to promote the scheme and also planned to organize workshops.

To access the confidential service, teens had to ask their school nurse for a referral or text STOP Vape to 66777.

Earlier this month the government announced a Tobacco and Vaping Bill, externalwhich proposes banning vaping advertising and sponsorship and limiting the flavors, packaging and display of vapes and other nicotine products.
