Foreigner arrested for gouging out man’s left eye during fight in Penang

BUTTERWORTH – Police have arrested a foreign national for allegedly gouging out a man’s left eye during a fight that broke out in Penang on November 16.

Penang police chief Hamzah Ahmad said the 28-year-old suspect was arrested following the altercation in Ara Kuda, Butterworth, which occurred around 2pm.

The victim, 52, was seriously injured.

“Based on initial investigation, the victim, a local man, had provoked the suspect before the suspect attacked him, injuring both of the victim’s eyes,” Datuk Hamzah said.

He added that the victim was taken to Kepala Batas Hospital for further treatment and is said to be in critical condition.

The police chief said the suspect is in pre-trial detention and is being investigated under Article 325 of the Criminal Code for voluntarily causing grievous pain. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
