Disgruntled Kushtia district BNP leaders and activists staged a protest today (November 17) demanding the dissolution of the newly formed 31-member meeting committee.

The demonstration, which was held from 10 am to 11 am, included a human chain stretching for half a kilometer along the NS Road, followed by a protest march and rally.

The event caused significant traffic disruption in the city and nearby roads.

The protesters allege that the new committee, headed by Kutub Uddin Ahmed and Zakir Hossain Sarkar, is a ‘pocket committee’ that excludes veteran leaders who have sacrificed for the party.

They state that the committee includes people who were not actively involved in the party during difficult times.

Former BNP leaders from the district, including Kajal Mazumdar and Shamim ul Hasan, spoke at the meeting, criticizing the new committee and vowing to intensify their protests.

“This small committee must be disbanded. No real BNP leader in Kushtia will accept his leadership,” said former Joint Secretary General Kajal Mazmadar.

Shamim ul Hasan, former organizing secretary of district BNP, echoed the sentiment and called on BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman to intervene and form a search committee to look into the matter.

The protesters issued a 72-hour ultimatum and threatened to intensify their actions if their demands were not met.
