Black Ops 6 still lets you use older XP tokens, but not quite yet

Treyarch has enabled, disabled and is now reintroducing legacy XP tokens Call of Duty: Black Ops6.

Along with five multiplayer maps (three of which are brand new) free and premium content, a new Zombies ‘seasonal experience’ and full integration with Call of Duty’s spin-off battle royale, Warzone, Season 1 of Black Ops 6 also introduced something else: older XP tokens.

Turns out the latter was an accident, but once players discovered older XP tokens in the new shooter, developer Treyarch “fixed an issue that could allow older XP tokens to be incorrectly activated in the Black Ops 6 user interface.”

If you’re frustrated with the solution, you’re not alone. That’s why Treyarch is investigating a way to do this ‘correctly’ in the future.

“At the start of Season 01, a UI bug allowed players to activate older XP tokens in Black Ops 6. Unfortunately, this also posed a potential risk to the stability of the game, which is why it was patched yesterday,” Treyarch explained.

“We realize how much players appreciate being able to redeem older XP tokens in both BO6 and Warzone, so we are currently testing a way to properly implement this change in a future update. This gives us time to ensure stability is maintained before reintroducing this feature.

“In the meantime, players can activate all older XP tokens in Warzone. Any tokens applied in Warzone will also apply to Black Ops 6 if you switch titles or modes,” Treyarch concluded, before revealing that we should hear more about this change next week. “.

The The latest Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 update also brought assault rifles. At the same time, the Ghost perk – which hides you from UAV and recon pulses – was also bugged, as it apparently could no longer be equipped.

“For a series built on thrills and explosive satisfaction, the retreat to the well-trodden formula reflects the wider industry’s continued allergy to risk,” wrote Chris Tapsell in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 review from Eurogamer.
