Kendrapara, Nov 17 (PTI) A court in Odisha’s Kendrapara district has sentenced a 53-year-old man to 20 years in jail for raping a minor girl.

Additional District Judge-cum-Special Judge (POCSO) Kendrapara Pragyan Paramita Roul on Saturday pronounced the verdict based on the evidence of 19 witnesses, including the victim girl and a medical report, said Special Public Prosecutor Manoj Kumar Sahu court.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on convict Kapilendra Mallick, he said.

The court also directed the Odisha State Legal Services Authority (OSLSA) to pay compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the victim girl under the government’s Odisha Victim Compensation Scheme, Sahu said.

According to the prosecution, the girl was raped at his house by Mallick, a neighbor, on June 6, 2022, when she had gone to his house to meet her boyfriend.
