A grieving woman who visited a grave in a cemetery late in the evening was raped by an unknown man, detectives have revealed.

The victim was assaulted both physically and sexually by the man who was wearing a jacket that may have had a fur-lined hood.

The sex attack happened a week ago at a cemetery on Church Street, Edenbridge, Kent, but was not immediately reported to police.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: ‘It is reported that a woman visiting a cemetery next to Church Street was physically and sexually assaulted by an unknown man.

‘The incident happened on Saturday November 9 between 9pm and 9.30pm. It was reported last Tuesday.

‘The suspect was described as quite tall and of slim build. He was wearing a jacket that may have had a fur hood.”

The statement added: ‘Officers continue to carry out a range of investigations to establish the full circumstances, including on-site forensic analysis, CCTV capability checks and extensive door-to-door inquiries.’

Police are calling on anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

‘Motorists with dashcams who may have been in the area, as well as businesses and residents with doorbell cameras or CCTV, are also asked to check for important footage.’
