Driver, passenger seriously injured in crash in Brown County, troopers say

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Two people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a two-vehicle crash in Brown County Saturday evening, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers.

Officers say 22-year-old William Freimuth was driving a 2010 Ford 150 westbound on Oakland Road around 7:40 p.m. when he entered the intersection and was struck by a 2001 Mazda MPV driven by 43-year-old Melissa Lakes. traveling south on US Route 68.

The Ford went off the left side of the road and struck a utility pole, while the Mazda went off the left side into a ditch.

Troopers say Lakes suffered serious injuries and was taken to UC Medical Center by Air Care, while the passenger, 21-year-old Charity Effinger, was also taken to UC Medical Center by Georgetown EMS.

OSP says Freimuth was wearing a seat belt and was not injured in the crash.

It is unclear whether speed, drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
