Anand BJP councilor accused of raping married woman, suspended

Vadodara: A BJP councilor from Anand municipality was charged with rape and intimidation on Sunday. Ward 6 councilor Dilip alias Dipu Prajapati was accused of allegedly raping a 35-year-old married woman. Prajapati was suspended as a primary member of the party on Sunday, even before the woman filed a police complaint.
According to a complaint filed with the Anand city police station, the councilor first approached the woman on June 6, promising to share the voter slip on her WhatsApp number. Later, the councilor started texting the woman.
The woman alleged that the councilor had threatened to share her recordings with her husband. The complainant stated that she was raped by the council member, who allegedly threatened to kill her husband and children.
Later, the complainant stated that after becoming pregnant, she narrated the incident to her husband and opted for an abortion with her husband’s consent.
On Saturday evening, the complainant stated that her husband went out of their house to buy ice cream when the councilor forcibly entered her house and raped her. When her husband returned home, the councilor tried to flee but was caught by her husband and others nearby. Later, the councilor called his brothers and a group of seven other suspects, who attacked the woman’s family.
The complaint was registered against the councilor, his brothers and seven others. Earlier on Sunday, before the complaint was registered, BJP suspended the councilor from all posts.
Anand district BJP president Rajesh Patel (Dharmaj) issued a letter suspending Prajapati from the party’s primary membership with immediate effect.
