Two inmates, including one convicted of murder, escape during Ram Leela’s performance in Haridwar jail

Jail Superintendent Manoj Kumar Arya said TNIE‘The prison administration learned of the escape of the two prisoners during a routine night count.’ Citing security flaws, authorities will reevaluate the organization of such events.

Two inmates escaped from Roshnabad jail in Haridwar by using a ladder to scale the compound wall, according to Arya. The daring escape was captured on CCTV, which shows the prisoners climbing the stairs to freedom. Primary investigations revealed that the ladder used in the escape was left inside the prison premises due to the ongoing construction of a high security barracks.”

Talking to TNIESHO Sidcul Manohar Bhandari stated, “We are investigating two main aspects: the lax security that allowed construction materials, including a staircase and pipes, to be left unattended, and the delay in reporting the incident to the police.”

Uttarakhand Inspector General of Prisons Vimala Gunjyal and Deputy Inspector General Dadhiram Maurya visited Roshnabad jail in Haridwar on Saturday, inspecting the escape site and the Ram Leela event venue.

“We have ordered an investigation into the incident,” said DIG Maurya TNIEadding, he said, “If any lapse or involvement is found, strict legal action will be taken against those responsible.” Haridwar police have registered a case against the two under section 262 (Any person who escapes or attempts to escape from lawful custody) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sahinta.
