Bangalore businessman charred in car, police suspect suicide

A businessman was found dead in his car which had been set on fire in remote Muddinpalya area of Bengaluru on Saturday evening, police said.

The police were alerted to a vehicle that was on fire, reports NDTV, after which the fire brigade was called. The fire had been extinguished but the man in the car, identified as C Pradeep (42), had already died of asphyxiation.

Pradeep, a hotel consultant by profession, had reportedly parked his Skoda car at a secluded spot before setting it on fire, NDTV reported. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation, with police suspecting it was a suicide.

A police officer on patrol, Shrinivas Murthy E, received a call from the police helpline, following which he rushed to the spot and saw a Skoda car engulfed in flames. He informed the fire brigade control room.

Pradeep’s family members and friends were questioned by the police and they confirmed that no suicide note was recovered from the scene. Authorities are also considering whether there are signs of financial or personal problems that may have contributed to his death.

According to a police officer, Pradeep may have committed suicide as he recently suffered losses in his business. “We found that Pradeep had bought four liters of petrol in a few two-litre cans minutes before the incident,” the officer said, the Indian Express reported.
