Delhi: 2 killed after collision while crossing road, driver arrested | Latest News Delhi

Two elderly pedestrians were killed in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar after being hit by a car that fled. A 20-year-old suspect was later arrested.

Two elderly people were killed after they were hit by a car while crossing a road in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar on Sunday morning, Delhi police officers said, adding that the vehicle sped away after the accident.

Police identified the deceased as Kamlesh Verma, 64, and Narayan Sharma, 75. Late on Sunday, police arrested a 20-year-old man, identified only by his first name Krish, in connection with the accident and seized the Hyundai Venue. car he was driving.

Giving details about the case, officers said that the police control room received a call about an accident near Uttam Nagar bus stand around 6 am. When police arrived on the scene, they were told that a woman had been taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and a man had been taken to Mata Chanan Devi Hospital.

On arrival at the respective hospitals, police were told that Verma was declared brought dead at DDU Hospital, while Sharma was undergoing treatment at Mata Chanan Devi Hospital. Late on Sunday, police said Sharma had died during treatment.

During the police investigation, eyewitnesses told investigators that the car struck the woman close to a store, but her body was found about 50 feet away, leading investigators to suspect the woman was dragged that length before the suspect fled.

A case was registered on charges of causing death by negligence and rash driving and an investigation was initiated. CCTV footage from the crime scene has been collected and analyzed, police said.

“During further investigation, ownership of the vehicle was obtained, the accused Krish was arrested and the Hyundai Venue was seized. The suspect is a first-year BBA student. Further investigation is underway,” said a senior police official investigating the case.
