Lucknow woman loses Rs 1.75 lakh after agreeing to work online from home

Who doesn’t want money? And if it’s easier to obtain, it becomes even more attractive. However, when someone offers easy money, it is likely a scam. In recent months, scammers have exploited this money to fulfill individuals’ wishes. There have been many reported cases of victims telling how they were duped by scammers under the pretext of simple work-from-home jobs that offered high returns. These scams often involve simple tasks, but instead of making money, victims end up losing it. Despite numerous warnings, it seems that people are still falling prey to these fraudulent schemes. In yet another case of work-from-home scam, a woman from Lucknow’s Gudamba region was cheated of Rs 1.75 lakh after she agreed to a fake work-from-home opportunity.

This scam started on September 14 when the victim, Dipika Maurya, a resident of Phoolbagh Colony, received a call from an unknown number. The caller offered her a tempting opportunity to work from home, claiming she could earn money by simply liking and commenting on messages through a mobile app, a Times of India report said. The victim thought the offer was legitimate, as there have been more and more options to work from home in recent years. And falling for the words of the scammer, the victim agreed to participate and started working.

Initially, she was asked to engage with posts by liking and commenting on them. As the days passed, Maurya saw good returns. Encouraged by this, the scammers persuaded her to make an ‘investment’ in a company they claimed would yield significant profits. Without attempting to withdraw her initial earnings, she was keen to increase her income and transferred Rs 1.75 lakh to the account provided by the fraudsters.

However, when Maurya tried to withdraw the promised winnings, the scammers refused and demanded additional deposits on the pretext of releasing her earnings. Maurya realized that she had been cheated and immediately reported the matter to the police and cyber cell.

This case is a serious reminder that despite numerous reports and official guidelines from the authorities, people still fall victim to such scams in the hope of making easy money. While jobs are important, it is crucial to remain vigilant in seeking out opportunities. When looking for a job online, always research the company or person offering the opportunity. This is more important if someone randomly calls you and offers jobs for good money.

Remember that real organizations have professional online websites and clear contact details. Also, legitimate employers never require applicants to make investments or pay fees to work. Most importantly, if a job offer seems too good to be true, it probably is. Jobs that promise high returns with minimal effort are a common red flag.
