Texas man arrested after crash that killed two people and injured one in NKY

MAYSVILLE, Ky. (WXIX) – A Texas man was arrested for vehicular homicide after killing two people in a multi-vehicle crash in Northern Kentucky last weekend.

William Lee Johnny Darnell, 38, of McKinney, Texas, was charged with vehicular homicide while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, assault in the first degree, wanton endangerment in the first degree, possession of marijuana and other traffic violations, according to a Kentucky State Police news release.

The accident happened Saturday, November 16, on AA Highway near the intersection of Slack Pike Road in Maysville.

Kentucky State Police Post 8 received a call for assistance from Mason County dispatchers around 8:25 p.m. for a report of a fatal multi-vehicle collision.

A preliminary investigation shows that a silver Nissan

The collision forced Wells’ vehicle into the eastbound lane and into the path of an oncoming Chevrolet Malibu, which was driven by a 31-year-old Germantown woman, troopers explained.

As a result, Wells and his passenger, 44-year-old Latasha Kay Wells, of Germantown, were pronounced dead at the scene by Mason County Coroner David Lawrence.

The 31-year-old woman was flown to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where she remains. She is listed as stable, troopers said.

Darnell is currently behind bars at the Mason County Detention Center.
