One death and one seriously injured early Monday in a head-on crash in Allen County

HUMBOLDT, Kan. (WIBW) – One person was killed and another person was seriously injured in a fiery head-on crash early Monday in Allen County, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 4:38 a.m. Monday near 800th Street and Delaware Raod, about a mile west of Humboldt.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 1997 Dodge Dakota was northbound on 800th Street when it went into a spin and collided head-on with a 2003 Ford Ranger pickup truck traveling southbound on 800th Street.

The Dodge pickup truck then caught fire and burned out after the collision, the patrol said.

The driver of the Dodge truck, Eric Leon Guenther, 57, of Humboldt, was taken to Allen County Regional Hospital in Iola, where he was pronounced dead. The parole said Guenther was wearing his seat belt.

The driver of the Ford pickup, Steven Yost, 53, of Humboldt, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, the patrol said. Yost was wearing his seat belt, the patrol said.

According to the patrol, both drivers were alone in their vehicles.
