Tottenham’s Rodrigo Bentancur was today given a seven-match home ban by the Football Association for an alleged racist comment about teammate Son Heung-min in a TV interview.

The midfielder was charged by the FA in September for an alleged breach of the rules during the interview in his home country of Uruguay.

The former Juventus player, who has also been fined £100,000 ($215,000), was asked for a Spurs player shirt by a presenter in June.

He replied, “From Sonny? It could also be Sonny’s cousin because they all look the same.”

Bentancur, 27, apologized to the South Korea international but because it was deemed an “aggravated breach”, an independent panel of regulatory commissions was needed to uphold the FA’s charge or dismiss the case.
