According to Hello! There is agreement within the British royal family that two heirs are generally not allowed to travel on the same flight. While Prince William and his eldest son traveled together to Australia in 2014, Canada in 2016 and Germany in 2017. Things could change when Prince George turns 12 in 2025.

“Until he was 12, they probably thought it would be too much for him to travel alone,” said former royal pilot Graham Laurie said in an episode of HELLO!‘A Right Royal’ podcast. “But still, that’s what they did.”

To further prove that safety is a reason behind the guidelines, Laurie recalls that his plane was painted red, white and blue before officials changed the color scheme in 2002 “to look more like a normal airplane.”

During his career, Laurie was able to assist with transportation King Charles, Princess DianaPrince William and Prince Harry together on family outings. However, things started to change when Prince William reached a certain milestone.

“The flights I did (holiday flights) were mainly when the Wales went to the Mediterranean,” he recalls. “But interestingly, all four of us flew: the (king), the princess, Prince William and Prince Harry, until Prince William was 12 years old. After that he had to have a separate plane and we couldn’t fly all four of them together until they were young, with Her Majesty’s written permission.”

According to Laurie, King Charles cannot fly with the Prince of Wales today.

When asked if it’s possible that the royal family will soon relax their unwritten rules when it comes to flying with family, Laurie suggested it was possible that the rules could be relaxed.

“I know the king is trying to reduce costs and is conscious about travel,” he shared, “but I think the safety side is still paramount.”

Until then, Prince George is focusing on being a kid and discovering new hobbies with his siblings Princess Charlotte And Prince Louis.

According to the Prince of Wales, his eldest son is “absolutely loves” to dive.

Plus, Prince George reportedly completed his first flying lesson at Berkshire Airfield in England before school started in September.

Prince George’s interest in flight probably comes from his father, who joined the Royal Air Force as a Flight Lieutenant in 2009. The following year he became a helicopter pilot in the Search and Rescue Force, a job he held until 2013.
