Aiyedatiwa announces payment of N73,000 minimum wage for Ondo workers

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has announced a new minimum wage of N73,000 for workers in the state.

He made this announcement during the gubernatorial campaign launch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo Central senatorial district held in Ondo town as the state prepares for the upcoming elections on November 16.

Addressing the crowd of supporters, the governor urged them to convert their support into votes for the APC to ensure continuity of development initiatives across the state.

He said: “On November 16, I urge everyone gathered here and those not present to convert their support into votes for the APC to ensure the continuation of our significant progress in the state.

“Based on the reports and my observations, I am confident that everyone wants this administration to continue beyond 2024.

“I see the love and appreciation from you and I don’t take it for granted. The best way to demonstrate this love is to vote for continuity, which will bring even more dividends to democracy.”

The governor highlighted the achievements of his administration over the past 10 months, stating: “During my tenure, we initiated several important projects, including those initiated by the late governor.

“In agriculture, we made significant progress, boosting food production across the state.

“We have also approved over one billion naira for deforestation and launched several rural road construction projects to facilitate the activities of our farmers and improve productivity in rural areas.”

The governor reaffirmed his dedication to strengthening security, the health sector, education and training of young people.

He noted that his administration’s efforts have made doctors more willing to stay in the state rather than leave to seek opportunities elsewhere, a trend known as the “Japan” syndrome. To address this, he mentioned that his administration increased doctors’ salaries and allowances.

Eng. Ade Adetimehin, the state chairman of APC, also addressed the crowd, urging them to vote for the party to maintain its power.

Adetimehin emphasized Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to infrastructural development across the state and reminded party members of the importance of safeguarding their voter cards which are essential to ensure continued leadership of the party.

Hon. Abiola Makinde, Member of the House of Representatives for Ondo East/West Federal Constituency, who is the Director-General of the campaign, commended Governor Aiyedatiwa as a proven and credible leader who emerged through a transparent primary process.

Makinde encouraged supporters to return to their local communities and mobilize voters for the Governor, highlighting the need for strong participation in the upcoming elections.

In her remarks, the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs, Mrs. Lola Fagbemi, highlighted Governor Aiyedatiwa’s significant achievements, including timely payment of salaries, construction and rehabilitation of roads and funding for WAEC fees for public schools.

Former APC governorship aspirant, Chief Olusola Oke, has urged party members to return to their local chapters to rally support for Governor Aiyedatiwa. He emphasized that popular mobilization is essential to the party’s success and encouraged all members to fully commit to achieving victory on November 16.

Furthermore, Hon. Kolade Akinjo, former member of the House of Representatives for Ilaje Ese-Odo Federal Constituency and former PDP gubernatorial aspirant, attributed his decision to join the APC to the leadership style and developmental achievements of Governor Aiyedatiwa.
