Emma Raducanu in ‘good place’ after Billie Jean King Cup success – ‘I am a dangerous player’

Emma Raducanu has been buoyed by her return from injury and feels like a “dangerous player” heading into the 2025 season.

Raducanu was sidelined for two months with a foot injury ahead of the Billie Jean King Cup but has returned to the field in style to help Great Britain reach the semi-finals.

The 2021 US Open winner reached the last 16 at Wimbledon earlier this year and has been in good form until the defeat this week German Jule Niemeier and Canada Rebekah Marino -both in two sets.

And the former British No.1 was ‘proud’ of her triumphant return as she reflected on her current position in the WTA scene.

“My assessment is, I think I need to be reminded sometimes, that I’m in the top 60 in the world and I’ve played less than fifteen events, which is quite unheard of in a way,” she told WTA.

“I have to pat myself on the back for that. I know I’m a dangerous player. I know no one wants to put my name in the draw.

“I’m proud of that and I’m looking forward to hopefully staying on the track longer next year.”

Rather than taking a break after the BJK Cup, the 22-year-old is looking to continue her momentum and carry it into her training for 2025 – with the Australian Open looming in less than two months.

“I think traditionally you would probably take a break and go on vacation or something,” Raducanu said. “But I feel like I’ve had four or five weeks off from tennis, and I don’t really need any more time off.”

She added: “I’m certainly excited and itching to get on the practice field, and seeing some of my performances this week obviously only pushes me to do more work.

“I’m very happy with the way I fought and how I’m doing against these top girls (at the BJK Cup).

“I feel like I’m in a pretty good place with my tennis right now.”

Now ranked No. 2 in Great Britain – Raducanu was propelled into the top 10 of the WTA rankings in 2022 after her historic win at the US Open. But her ranking plummeted the following year.

Raducanu performed disappointingly on the field before undergoing major surgery on her wrists and ankle last year, but has had an improved season in 2024.

Her run at Wimbledon was the deepest she has produced in a Grand Slam since her US title, and she reached the semi-finals of the Nottingham Open in June, where she lost to eventual winner Katie Boulter.

Raducanu also has a perfect record in this year’s BJK Cup, having defeated French duo Caroline Garcia and Diane Parry earlier in the campaign.
