Driver charged after crash killed 53-year-old motorcyclist in Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG, NC (FOX Carolina) – A driver is facing charges after a 53-year-old motorcyclist was killed Monday morning, according to Spartanburg police.

Officers were called to the intersection of Bomar Avenue and South Church Street around 10:30 a.m

According to police, a Nissan Maxima attempted to turn left onto Bomar Avenue from South Church Street when the driver turned in front of a motorcyclist heading north on South Church Street. Officials said the motorcyclist collided with the Nissan in the middle of the intersection.

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time and died on the spot. The coroner identified the victim as Billy Keith Stevens.

The driver of the Nissan was charged with failure to yield the right of way.
