Whitehaven murder accused admits manslaughter of Tiffany Render

Giving evidence, Irwin claimed Miss Render’s death was an accident.

He denied being responsible for a “cycle of violence” against her and insisted he did not kill her.

The defendant admitted that he had used ten lines of cocaine in the hours before Miss Render’s death.

He spoke of her bleeding from an injury, but denied any suggestion that she was “in pain” at the time.

They fell asleep, he said, before he woke up to find Miss Render dead.

After cross-examination, Irwin pleaded guilty to a further charge of manslaughter, admitting unlawfully killing Miss Render.

This is not considered an appropriate solution by the prosecutor, who continues with murder and assault charges, which the defendant denies.

The process continues.
