Americans who are ‘unhappy’ with Trump’s victory can buy dirt-cheap houses on this small Italian island

Donald Trump has been elected the new president of the United States and his return to the White House has led to mixed reactions. There are several people, including celebrities, who have spoken about leaving the country after his victory. They say they see no future if Trump is back in control.

The Italian island of Sardinia is doing everything it can to encourage people to move there. Ollolai in rural Italy faces economic decline and a depleting population. It is trying to get people to move there, offering houses for as little as one euro to attract outsiders.

Now that it has seen how some Americans don’t like seeing Trump win, it has launched a website aimed at potential American expats. Cheap homes are being offered to those wanting to leave the US, and Sardinia officials hope people will quickly start using the properties.

The website sells a ‘balanced lifestyle’ and ‘opportunities’ to prospective residents. “Are you exhausted by global politics? Do you want to embrace a more balanced lifestyle while securing new opportunities?” the website asks. “It’s time to start building your European escape in the breathtaking paradise of Sardinia.”

Although there is no indication that the website was created after the US election results, Mayor Francesco Columbu told CNN that the website was created to attract American voters. He is hopeful that the Americans will help revive Sardinia.

Americans will be given preference

He told CNN that while people from other countries are also welcome, the process will be accelerated for Americans.

“We cannot, of course, prevent people from other countries from registering, but the Americans will have an accelerated procedure. We bet they will help us revive the village, they are our winning card.”

“Of course, we cannot specifically name one American president who has just been elected, but we all know that he is the one that many Americans now want to get away from and leave the country,” Columbo added.

The offer consists of three levels of accommodation: Digital nomads can buy temporary houses for free, houses in a dilapidated state offered for one euro, and ready-made houses for prices up to 100,000 euros ($105,000).

Columbu adds that buyers will be assisted every step of the way. Private, customized tours will be provided and people will receive a list of contractors and builders in addition to help with the necessary paperwork.

Ollolai currently only has about 1,150 inhabitants. The population has shrunk from 2,250 to 1,300 over the past century. People have left the island due to economic conditions.
