Boyfriend and three others rape Andhra student and make videos to blackmail; girl tries to commit suicide after months of harassment

A law student was allegedly raped by her boyfriend and three others on August 13, 2024, in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The four suspects have been arrested, the police reported in a press release on Tuesday.

“All four suspects were arrested and remanded in custody. The victim’s friend (Vamsi) and his three close friends are the accused,” Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Shanka Brata Bagchi was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

According to the police, the four suspects would have done that raped the law student and recorded the act to later blackmail her with some intimate videos.

A case has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 70(1), 77, 351(2), 69 and 75(1), including Section 67 (A) of the IT Act 2000 to 2008, news agency PTI reported.

Police said the main accused, Vamsi, and the law student had been in a relationship for more than a year. On August 13, 2024, Vamsi took the girl to his friend’s room in Krishna Nagar in the port city where she was sexually assaulted.

“Later, other suspects arrived at the spot and filmed the intimate moments of Vamsi and the girl,” police said.

Police added that the suspects, with the help of the girl’s boyfriend, threatened the law student with her obscene videos and allegedly sexually assaulted her.

After months of harassment, the girl tried to commit suicide on November 18 but was saved by her father. She then shared her ordeal with the family.

A complaint was then filed with police, leading to the arrest of the four on Tuesday, police said.

In another news report, an eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped at a temporary shelter inside a brick kiln in Odisha’s Cuttack district, police said. The incident took place in Trisulia area of ​​the district on Tuesday evening, they added.

The minor was admitted to the ICU of SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack and her condition is critical. The girl’s parents, who work at the brick kiln, stated in their complaint to Barang police station that the accused is a 16-year-old boy from Jharkhand.
