Man shocked to see alligator in pool at Stuart’s house after Milton

STUART, Fla. – After spending three days with his mother-in-law in Vero Beach during Hurricane Milton, Emile De Cuba was relieved to return to his Stuart home and see it emerge with minimal damage from the storm.

The only thing that shocked De Cuba when checking out his house? An alligator in the pool.

“I got home yesterday around 11:30 a.m. and when I walked through the sliding door I said ‘Wow!'” De Cuba said.

De Cuba was not only alarmed to see the five-foot-long alligator, but also questioned how the alligator got into his fenced-in home. From Cuba he quickly called the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, who quickly removed the unwanted visitor from the pool.

“The yard is heavily guarded, we have a wooden fence on one side and a wire fence on the other with a lot of vegetation,” said De Cuba. “The wildlife officer told me it probably went over the wire fence because they can climb it.”

Next to De Cuba and his wife Susan’s home is a condominium with a retention pond where they believe the alligator came from.

“The first thing (FWC) asked me was if there was a retention lake around here,” De Cuba said. “They said this usually happens after these storms, (the crocodiles) get confused.”

De Cuba said he will now probably install something over the wire fence to prevent a crocodile from crawling back into the house.
