“Sorry to the fans and BCCI..” Mohammed Shami posts emotional message after missing out on Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 squad

Mohammed Shami has been out of action since last year’s World Cup final.

Indias The path to the final of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 has taken a blow after losing their home Test series against New Zealand.

Fans and critics expected the Indian team to win all five home Test matches against Bangladesh (two matches) and New Zealand (three matches) before heading to Australia for the ultimate showdown.

However, after going down to the Kiwis in the first two Tests of the series, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has become even more interesting with South Africa and New Zealand back in the WTC final.

Furthermore, India has been hit by the absence of senior pacer Mohammed Shami. Shami, who has been sidelined since the 2023 World Cup final due to an ankle injury, has been working hard to regain match fitness.

However, he was not included in the 18-man squad announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the tour of Australia, although a mid-series comeback has not yet been ruled out for Shami. It was even hinted at in Shami’s latest Instagram post.

After missing out on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy squad, Shami took to Instagram to share a message with the fans and the BCCI. A short video shows how he goes through an intensive workout in the gym. Alongside the video, Shami posted a heartfelt message, expressing his disappointment and promising to continue his efforts to make a comeback soon.

“I am trying my best and getting better every day with my bowling fitness,” Shami wrote. “Will continue to work hard on preparing for the match and playing domestic red ball cricket. Sorry to all the cricket fans and also BCCI, but soon I will be ready to play red ball cricket, I love you all.” wrote Mohammed Shami on Instagram.

Shami’s absence has opened up opportunities for the likes of Harshit Rana, Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna. Indian fast bowlers have played an important role in India’s last two Test series wins in Australia. With the experience of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj already at their disposal, India will be hopeful of a strong bowling performance from their third pacer.
