A shoplifting incident at a Tampa The gas station turned into a hit-and-run, landing a couple in jail and a clerk in the hospital.

Hillsborough County Officers said they responded to the Shell gas station at 11302 North Dale Mabry Highway on Monday shortly after 2 p.m. after reports of a collision that seriously injured a victim.

Detectives said the incident began when a vehicle was parked in front of the Shell store and the front seat passenger, Jose Corbo, 24, walked in, grabbed two soda bottles without paying and left.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the store clerk confronted Corbo when he got back into the vehicle, but the driver, Marie Uribe, 24, sped away.

On Wednesday, Corbo was arrested and charged with great bodily harm, resisting arrest or detention for shoplifting, petit larceny and an out-of-county warrant for grand theft of motor vehicle.

“This senseless act of violence seriously injured an innocent person. We will not tolerate reckless actions like this that endanger lives,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We hope this arrest provides some comfort to the victim as she recovers from this traumatic incident.”
