Free breakfast offered to prospective bus drivers in Harris County

HAMILTON, Ga. (WTVM) – This morning, the Harris County School District Transportation Department hosted a special breakfast aimed at connecting current bus drivers with potential candidates: “Cookies with Bus Drivers.”

“This is an opportunity for anyone interested in becoming a bus driver to learn more about what it takes to become a bus driver and the training,” said Dee Miller, director of transportation for the Harris County School District.

The recruitment event took place from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Transportation Building in Hamilton. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions of those with experience in the work and enjoyed free sausage biscuits and coffee.

“We want to be safe for everyone on the road and it’s important for us to get those students home the same way they were dropped off at our place in the morning,” Miller said.

Because safely transporting students to and from school is a top priority, events like these allow the Harris County School District to carefully select potential drivers. Paid training is also offered, along with full-time benefits for part-time hours.
