One dead after car crashes into utility pole on alternate US-17

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred about five miles north of Summerville.

Sergeant Tyler Tidwell says a car was traveling north on US-17, near Clubhouse Road, Saturday evening at approximately 11:35 a.m. when it ran left and right off the road, struck a ditch and then struck a utility pole.

He says the driver of the 2001 GMC Yukon was the only one in the car and died at the scene.

The Dorchester County Coroner’s Office has not yet identified the victim.
