Rockport woman jailed for neglect of 3-year-old child

SPENCER CO., Ind. (WFIE) – A 31-year-old Rockport woman will go to federal prison after a jury convicted her of seriously injuring a small child.

On Wednesday, court officials say Ariel Ragan pleaded guilty to domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury to a person under the age of 14, a Level 3 felony.

The Spencer County Sheriff’s Office says she agreed to the plea deal in exchange for waiving her appeal rights and was sentenced to a 10-year IDOC sentence, to run concurrently with the previously imposed 15 years.

Ragan was arrested in February after a neighbor found the 3-year-old victim unconscious and seriously injured.

Prosecutor Megan Bennet says the victim made a successful recovery and is doing well today.
