SALISBURY – The city council will consider authorizing City Manager Jim Greene Jr. to enter into agreements with the North Carolina Department of Transportation for approximately $8.5 million in funding for a multimodal center at the Salisbury Depot.

Funding comes from the federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality program and will include a local match of $320,000 as well as state funding of approximately $2.8 million.

It will be included in the Multi-Modal Depot project, which would provide a central hub for multiple modes of transportation and has been included in potential transportation project talks for at least four years.

The next Salisbury City Council meeting will be at 6 p.m. at City Hall, located at 217 S. Main St. Other agenda items that will be discussed include:

  • The board will receive an update on the Health and Wellbeing Olympics challenge from employees.
  • The board will consider a resolution authorizing the acceptance of $400,000 in funding from the state Local Assistance for Stormwater Infrastructure Investments grant. The council will also consider a budget bill adjusting the city budget to reflect the additional $400,000 in appropriations.
  • Council will consider a right-of-way encroachment for MCNC to install fiber within the rights-of-way of Old Concord Road, Jake Alexander Boulevard South, East Innes Street, North Main Street, North Long Street, Horah Street and Rowan Tech Road. Trespassing would require approval from NCDOT and any applicable rail entities.
