  • The Italian classic damaged the wall of a house when it caught fire.
  • The car was reportedly owned by an electrical engineer, which is now just a charred mess.

Unveiled at the 1984 Paris Motor Show, the Ferrari Testarossa was one of the most dramatic cars the Italian manufacturer had built at the time. It didn’t take long before it became a cult icon, thanks in part to its starring role in the hit TV series Miami Vice. Today, the Testarossa is still highly regarded, but unfortunately there will be one less on American roads.

The images you are viewing are displayed a Testarossa which caught fire in a building somewhere in California. Apologies if this doesn’t look like the kind of home you’d normally expect from a prized mid-engine supercar, but seeing a Testsarossa in such a sorry state is enough to upset any car enthusiast.

According to Reddit user /Greatdrew who uploaded the photos, the car was owned by his neighbor, an electrical engineer who regularly buys several project cars to restore. He says the car caught fire overnight and has suggested that the old fuel lines and wiring could have caused the car to spontaneously combust.

Of course, unless police investigators were called to the scene, it would be difficult to actually identify the cause of the fire. The fire likely started in the engine compartment and the entire rear half of the Testarossa, including the famous 4.9-liter naturally aspirated flat-12 engine, was destroyed. The rear window is also broken, as are the two rear side windows.

The fire also spread to the house, damaging a small section of a wall, but fortunately the fire was extinguished before the entire house went up in flames. We hope that the owner of the car has comprehensive insurance and is paid. If not, they’ll likely spend upwards of $150,000 and perhaps as high as $200,000, roughly the range Testarossas are currently trading hands for.
