KTMB prepares report on train passenger who pulled the emergency brake

KUALA LUMPUR: A comprehensive report is being prepared into an incident where a passenger deliberately pulled the handbrake of the Electric Train Service (ETS) while it was still moving.

This report will be submitted to the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) for future action.

KTMB Group CEO Datuk Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin urged all train users to refrain from any action that could disrupt train services.

“Passengers violating the regulations will face severe penalties under Section 122 of the Apad Act, 2010.

“This may result in a fine of up to RM1,000, imprisonment for a period not exceeding three months, or both,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Oct 13).

It added that the misuse of emergency signaling devices in any train or carriage, designed to stop the train during genuine emergencies, constitutes an offense under the Act.

The incident, which occurred at 11:25 pm and captured on closed circuit television (CCTV), caused a delay of 120 minutes.

The train, traveling from KL Sentral to Ipoh, departed at 9.40pm and was scheduled to arrive at 12.16pm.

However, the train only arrived in Ipoh at 2am. – Bernama.
